Saturday night I had fun rolling out fondant icing to make these...
I figured with a baby on the way, a nest was appropriate (I was going to take the foil off, but my SIL decided that she liked the look of them). I used my favourite Black Forest cake recipe for the cupcakes, and then topped them with butter cream icing (I think cream would have tasted better, but would have been more difficult to decorate). I coloured the fondant with yellow, and then added cocoa till I got it to a twig-like shade (and it made it taste a whole lot better too!!!), and rolled them into thin 'twigs'. Topped with an egg to finish.
Here are some of the other foods as they arrived:
Red Velvet Cupcakes |
They were as soft and smooth as the name implies (better than the ones that I had previously attempted!). I think I need this recipe.
Strawberry Mousse Cake |
Pretty dip |
Macaroons
The now famous Adriano Zumbo Macaroons. Enough said.
Did I indulge to much? ... I surprised myself, and was quite restrained. I was given a few things to share with my boys (the big and the small ones) for dessert on the way home, which after driving for ages was a pleasant treat.
For those of you who are wondering what the crochet was, I will reveal some of it later today!
Hi Sheree I really loved your bird nest cupcakes and will try and make them. The recipe I used for the red velvet cupcakes came from the Hummingbird bakery cookbook. I'm so happy that my attempt at baking Madeleines was a success compared to the burnt flat things that looked nothing like little sea shells the last time I tried to make them. The recipe for them in the 'Complete perfect recipes' cookbook was perfect after all : ) xxxItia
