Missing You

Happy 75th birthday Dad!
Wish your ears could hear, your eyes see, and your arms still hug with the strength that God gave them.
... and I wish you could have met your grandsons.

My Creative Space - Vintage Wallpaper

I've been playing with some colour combinations of card stock and vintage wallpaper. They aren't my usual colours that I like to go for (My style is more summery/fruity), but I figure I need to stretch myself occasionally instead of just sitting in my usual comfortable groove.

What do you think? Are there any that you like the combination of? Should I change some? Am I completely out of my mind with these ones?

Diet Donuts

Look out Krispy Kreme! These one's won't be landing on my hips any time soon!

I finished the donut for Jellyfish  on October 4 - which was a long weekend here. This is Little Clam's donut. I made the icing bigger on it (a little too big - I had to trim it because it was puckering and it just looked wrong), and instead of using dashes and french knots, I just used french knots this time as I thought they would appeal to the little guy more.

It took me a week and a half to get around to actually photographing it. Sorry. With Mr. Kelp away last week (9 days to be precise) I didn't really get anywhere near either the camera or my blog! I'm considering posting a tutorial on them... they are pretty straight forward though - you could probably do it all by yourself :) I am seriously considering making some felt fruit to give a more balanced "morning tea". One project at a time! :)

While outside enjoying my cuppa, I got distracted watching this little fella... I had to share him with you.

Enjoy your day! :)

Love and Kisses Crochet Hat

It's finished! The aida fabric styled hat crocheted for my niece. It's for her birthday which is some time away yet (Just hope she doesn't grow too big a head in the mean time!). To be honest I finished the crocheting part AGES ago, but since it needed to be put together and embroidered, it has been sitting on the UFO list (as Karen likes to call it). I finished the embroidery last night - and it wasn't until I'd done the last little kiss that I realised that I had done it on the wrong face of the beanie! Aagghh! So it is going to sit on the sidelines for a while longer till I decide if I am going to undo all the little crosses and start again.

The pattern is found here. If you are thinking of making one to gift and don't have the exact measurement of the kid, check out this size chart for some helpful tips.

Happy Monday!

Dream on...

I just found this today... and now I WANT one! A new pattern book by Toni Coward of Make it Perfect.
It's not available yet, sigh. I guess for the time being I will just have to add it to my wish list.

My Creative Space - One down, One to go!

Here is Jellyfish's doughnut.

This is the first time I have ever embroidered anything... I'm starting small. I have a bit of embroidery floss though... Remember the friendship bands from the late 80's early 90's? That was when I first started collecting it all. I've had it a while.

I am currently working on the embroidery for Little Clam's one. Hope to get it finished by tonight! Then it's off to do some more stitching for Chrissy pressies, which I will give you a sneak peek of soon.

Today's great finds

Jellyfish, Little Clam and I took a trip to a local thrift store today and found some wonderful treasures that I couldn't wait to share with you! (Yes - even before I ironed any of them - you will have to excuse the wrinkly or folded state of the fabric in each case!

2 linen place mats that were sold with this funky green floral square (I'm not sure what I am going to make out of these beauties - but I will think of something!)

Applique detail
A set of 6 blue soft cotton napkins. These have hand appliqued  and embroidered flowers and leaves, and they are hand hemmed and a design stitched on the hem. I'm wondering if I should use them as they are, or if I should stitch them into something else??? They don't appear to be used.

A pair of "ducky" wellies for Jellyfish

A white cotton skirt with white embroidered flowers, crocheted inserts, and pin tucks.

And the final treasure... a silk and cotton blend top with tags on! I love the fabric in this one... too bad my post pregnancy tummy looks a bit like someone shoved a pillow up my top! I'm wondering  if I should redesign it into something else... what do you think? Help.

Weekend of Treats Part 2

Sunday we went to the Old Bus Depot Markets - and there were such interesting things there (there was one particular stall of the most gorgeous jewellery, but I didn't think I should splurge on myself since it wasn't MY birthday).

Some amazing dresses made from crocheted vintage doilies - I so badly wanted to get one - but wasn't sure it was "my size", so I just took this pic so I could remember it fondly.

One guy had the cutest stand of kids canvasses... I wanted to have a longer look (and maybe get one) but the kids started fussing. One day.

In the pre-loved vintage section of the markets, I found this old photo. It just spoke to me, so I had to buy it. I'm not totally sure how I am going to display it (any suggestions?), but something will come up that I think will be perfect I'm sure :)

The back of the photo.

We had Ethiopian food from one of the stalls for lunch, and then headed to the glass works, where we watched a demonstration of glass blowing and other related things. This was worth a look - and I'd love to see the process when they are working on something big.

After that it was off to Koko Black for a treat of decadence like you wouldn't believe. Seriously. If you get the Ice Chocolate... you WON'T need anything else. I also shared the spring 2010 version of the Belgian spoil (I should have skipped the beverage!) - Ooohhhhhhh!!! The Blood Orange gelati was divine! I highly recommend it :)

Weekend of Treats Part 1

Last weekend we took a trip to Canberra to visit my brother and his wife for Jellyfish's birthday... it's hard to believe that he is 3 - where did all that time go? My little boy is not a baby any more!!!

We had an aeroplane birthday cake (White choc mud - thanks to JF's Aunty -  we all decorated it while the kiddies were asleep) that we celebrated with in the park at Floraide, complete with Balloons on poles.

Then we took a trip around the gardens.

And stopped off to pet the baby animals.

There was this seriously cute kid (baby goat) that jumped up on a hay bale and started nibbling on the grass that was hanging out of the calf's mouth... reminded me of that part in the Lady and the tramp... sort of.

More tomorrow...

My Creative Space - Baking with felt

On the go this week...

A little baking with felt. Jellyfish is very partial to cupcakes and doughnuts, and requested that I make him some. Hope to get some for both Jellyfish and Little Clam finished over the weekend.

Before I started to embroider the "sprinkles" on the top of the "icing" I discovered that my embroidery floss was a mess, so I made up some cute little thread cards from up-cycled junk mail (thank you Myers).

Some of the thread is vintage stuff (green, cornflower blue & saffron yellow)... I got it from my sister, and she got it (as I understand) from my Grandma and some of Mum's cousins, so it's pretty old!
