Fabric Flower Brooch

It seems I've been away from my little piece of cyberspace for way too long. My Mum has been visiting for the past week, and even though there hasn't been any writing going on to speak of, there has been the odd spot of crafting.

Yesterday I decided to make a fabric rosette for my Mum to wear to a birthday party where everyone has been instructed to wear something purple (the birthday girl's fave colour.) I used rayon, and it was fiddly - but hey, that is what was in my stash, and I didn't have time to run to the shops since the boys were having their afternoon naps. It turned out OK I think, but if I were making another, I would use cotton. And make the strips wider. I also hand stitched it instead of using hot melt glue to stick it all together, So that would have made it a little more fiddly possibly. I added a circle of felt that I had stitched a safety pin to using hot melt glue, and it was done!

Jellyfish's hand doesn't really give you an idea of how big it was, but it was about as big as the palm of my hand - and I have pretty large hands! So, that is another thing that I wanted to try, crossed off my list! :) I think I might actually give it a go again some time, but with something a bit more substantial.

My Creative Space - Dreams do Come True

 I finally took the plunge and bought myself a pattern book. Remember here where I was all excited about this book...

My Grandma gave me birthday money last year, so I allocated some of it to the Purchase of Toni Cowards Make It Perfect. Well the other day I had one of those moments when you just know it is time to do whatever it is that you have been putting off... wandered into my local Borders, and ordered it. It arrived on Tuesday. Then while I was looking through it yesterday, I had one of those "Aha" moments and ran and got my delicious fabric that I bought while holidaying with friends in Scarborough. Both of the striped ones are sheeting that I bought at a local fabric shop up there, and the 80's patterned fabric is actual vintage 80's fabric that I was gifted. Now all I need to do it go and get some solids to go with them...

Any suggestions as to what I should make first? And fabric suggestions?

Today's great finds

Jellyfish, Little Clam and I took a trip to a local thrift store today and found some wonderful treasures that I couldn't wait to share with you! (Yes - even before I ironed any of them - you will have to excuse the wrinkly or folded state of the fabric in each case!

2 linen place mats that were sold with this funky green floral square (I'm not sure what I am going to make out of these beauties - but I will think of something!)

Applique detail

A set of 6 blue soft cotton napkins. These have hand appliqued  and embroidered flowers and leaves, and they are hand hemmed and a design stitched on the hem. I'm wondering if I should use them as they are, or if I should stitch them into something else??? They don't appear to be used.

A pair of "ducky" wellies for Jellyfish

A white cotton skirt with white embroidered flowers, crocheted inserts, and pin tucks.
 

And the final treasure... a silk and cotton blend top with tags on! I love the fabric in this one... too bad my post pregnancy tummy looks a bit like someone shoved a pillow up my top! I'm wondering  if I should redesign it into something else... what do you think? Help.

Christmas Stitching

I promised you (on Thursday) that I would give you a look (on Friday) at some of the yummy fabric I have bought recently.  I was a bit lazy and got distracted with other things, so the weekend took over, and here we are, and it is Thursday! Sorry.

I have taken a couple of trips to Spotlight now to source some other fabrics. I have been getting most of my stuff (as you know) from the Craft Depot, but I decided it was time to look for other styles. I am going to mix the ones pictured with some vintage ones from my stash. I will give you a glimpse when I have done some more - but not too much, or it will be a giveaway! These are for Christmas, and are my first proper sewing since I was 14 (don't ask how many years ago that was!!!), so the knees are bound to knock a little.

First Day of Spring!

Yay! I have been waiting for Spring to arrive since (it seems) forever, and now it has finally arrived. And with it some explosions of wonderful.

Some strawberries that the Jellyfish, Little Clam and Mr. Kelp helped me eat for lunch. These were a first for Little Clam, and he seemed to have an exquisite time revelling in the squishy sweet juiciness of it all!

I think I may have a short attention span this week - I have too many things either on the sticks or hook... again.

I have actually finished knitting the cushion cover for my Mum, but I do need to sew the seams and add a zip before I post it off to her.

I am really excited about what I am endeavouring to do with this vintage (gifted) fabric next week!

What fabric is this???

A while ago I bought this fat quarter because I fell in love with the fabric.

I was going to make it into a couple of little somethings for Christmas pressies. Unfortunately, I am a bit tardy. I had every intention of going back to the Craft Depot to buy myself some, but since then they have had a massive sale, and while I have made other purchases, I have not seen my joyful birdy fabric since! Sniff. So, now I will need to make my goodies out of some other fabric (an excuse to go shopping perhaps?)
