My Creative Space - Thanksgiving

Well, down here in the southern hemisphere it is the third Thursday of the last month of Autumn... the equivalent to the same date in November in the northern hemisphere... so...

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

The preparations started yesterday. In fact I didn't get to bed till almost midnight (serves me right for not being more organised). Jellyfish, Little Clam and I made some gingerbread men using a vintage cutter that Jellyfish's Oma gave him (his great grandmother). There was just something about the collar and the big buttons that made me think of Puritans, and Thanksgiving. Being that he had no idea of my previous thoughts, that morning he asked if we could make some, and here we are!

I had quite a bit of fun making all the dishes actually, some were sourced from my friend who used to live in the US, some were from last November's Martha Stewart Living Magazine and some were family recipes. Thought I'd share some pictures of the going's on with you.

It was also my friend Alysha's second last Thursday lunch with us (a tradition that we started just after Jellyfish was born) as she is off to a new job in a new location, so we thought we would make it just a little bit special. She brought the yummy Blueberry slice.

My Creative Space - Thanksgiving Pumpkins

Today is Thanksgiving in the US... well to be precise, it's still Wednesday there - but in about 7 1/2 hours it will be Thursday, and a few hours after that (as I understand it) Mother's all over the east coast will be getting up to start preparing their Thanksgiving Lunch/Dinner.
Earlier this year, my friend in New Hampshire sent me a package to help me do an Aussie styled Thanksgiving on the third Thursday of May... She is also the one responsible for my taking the 'Blog Journey', as she set up this blog for me in the first place.

Anyway, as a thank you to her I have made some little Thanksgiving knitting place markers and a stitch marker. Today is the day I chose to post about it. I am sending them to her new home in Bunburry WA, as she married an awesome friend of mine last month. She arrives in just over a week - and I can't wait to have her in a similar time zone!

Welcome to Aus Jenn! I hope that home here will become just as special as I know New Hampshire is to you.

Edit: I was talking to Jenn, and she tells me that the calendar is crazy this year, and that in fact, Thanksgiving is going to be on the 4th Thursday instead of the 3rd. Sorry.

Thankfulness

Well, this blog has been a long time coming. I have been thinking of writing for a while, but only just recently was inspired enough to actually make it happen! Well... to be perfectly accurate, I talked to one of my friends, and she created this account for me (Probably because she got sick of me talking about doing it but never actually doing anything about it!) Thanks Jenn!

Thanksgiving Dinner

Last week we hosted a "Southern Hemisphere" Thanksgiving. It was supposed to happen the week previous, but all my boys got sick, so we had to postpone it. My northern hemisphere friend was so chuffed that we were having our own Thanksgiving, that she sent us a little thankfulness package, complete with French Fried onions (to put on the green bean casserole), some Reeces Peanut Butter Cups (Oooohhhh, they are good - don't worry, there are still plenty left... well some anyway!), and some toys for my littlest boys. Thank you beautiful lady, you have no idea how special that was! I have to say that the decorations were less than I had hoped, but the food was wonderful (Next time we will have mini pumpkin decorations). One of my friends did several trials to get her pumpkin pie "Just right", and it was perfect!. Sadly this busy mum only took 1 photo, right before everyone demolished it all!
