Where the Rubber Meets the Road - or in this case - Where the Shoe meets the Track

Years ago I met this guy while on an expedition (3 day hike) who I thought at the time was part crazy, part talented, and definitely liked to "aim for the sky". Turns out I was probably right on all accounts. Darren has recently started training for what I would term a Marathon hike - the Bibbulmun Track. The record for the shortest time that it has been done (unsupported) in was 17 days, 15 hours, and 10 minutes (for those who are counting!). How many Kilometers, I hear you ask? 1000!!! (Refer to the 3 previous criteria that I thought he fitted in to).

The thing is, he is motivated to do it in part by the fact that he is aiming to raise funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) because his wife and other special people in his family have Type 1 Diabetes. Talk about ways of saying "I love you" to the person who matters most in your life! He's new to the blog scene too, so if you have a minute, pop over and give him some encouragement!

Hope your weekend has been brilliant!

P. S. I'll be back tomorrow with a little splash of colour...

  1. That is so cool. I absolutely love when people feel so strongly about something they get off their bottoms and DO SOMETHING. He is doing way more than most people, that's awesome. AND YOU... were YOU on a 3 day hike? I bet you see gorgeous country. xoxo jules

  2. Thanks so much Sheree! I found it amusing to read that when you first met me you thought i was part crazy... now that I have known you all these years, I have obviously removed all doubt! :) Seriously though, thanks for sharing this with your readers and thanks for the support.
