On My Feet...?

I've been thinking about getting some new shoes for spring/summer lately, and with that is the thought of carrying a small baby around while wearing them. I have heels, but the thought of toppling over and dropping him isn't appealing at all. And then I saw these...

I love everything about them... except maybe the elephant poop. And the height. They are very in your face. But I just love to look at them! They are so colourful.

Would you wear something this colourful if you were given it?
Would you buy it for yourself?

Tell me your thoughts - I really would like to know. There is quite a bit of controversy on this one at the site it was published on. I have in my stash some craft paper made from elephant poop... but it does look quite a bit, erm, less 'earthy'!

Hope your day is full of sunshine!

String Basket

You may not believe this, but after finishing the piece from last week that I was working on, I decided I didn't like the way it stitched together along the seams, so I pulled it all undone and had a good think about it.
After having two days of an unsettled, uncomfortable baby, I finally got back to it and I love how it came together!

It started with a Red Heart Eco-Living pattern book that my SIL gave me last year. But after looking at the pattern I decided (as I often do) to do my own thing. And I believe I like it a whole lot better. I used the same string that I used for my String Jar-Vase and a size I hook.

This little project is designed to hold face washers and other goodies that you might want in your guest bathroom (or hey, why not your own even) and is on it's way to my Mum's for her birthday.

Take a moment and indulge your creative side - you might even fee better for it.

My Creative Space - Crochet & Knit Going's On

I've done it again. Put my fingers in too many pies. I can't seem to settle to just one activity at the moment, and I'm running from project to project - doing a bit here, and a bit there. I've also realised that it has been a little while since I have shared anything with you that was in the making stages, rather than the finished result.

Here is the first one I started.

This is the second. It stalled because I want to make a liner from fabric, and I can't be bothered getting the sewing machine out - because there is a very good chance that the moment I do, Baby Starfish will wake. And he is my priority right now.

And finally  there's this little bit of string-happiness.
It's the one that I have actually made the most progress with.

I'm hoping to have it all done by Friday. You should come back and have a little look-see, and tell me what you think.

...And yes, I have been having a little play on picmonkey again - I heart naptimes!

Check out what other creative peeps have been up to this week...

Blue Goo

What do you do when the weather warms after a couple of months of cold?

Why, play outside of course!
I've been promising the boys ever since Baby Starfish was born that I would make them some blue goo to play with. Today I made good on my promise.

They had an absolute blast. I think the pictures speak for themselves...

Look at my hands Mum!

"Walking on Water"
Yes... you are seeing correctly. He was just about to jump up on the table so he could walk on it after he and his little bro had spent some time hitting the mix and finding how hard it was. Jellyfish has been talking for weeks about putting cornstarch in water and walking on it after he saw an episode of Myth Busters (He LOVES that show, we have to be selective which episodes he views... but science clearly runs in his veins!) He was quite satisfied with the results. :)

And clean up wasn't as bad as I thought it might be... a container of soapy water at the back door to deal with their hands was a much better idea than making them wash up in the bathroom. (Should have thought even further ahead and filled the little shell pool on the back lawn with warm soapy water and let them go for it! lol maybe next time).

I got the idea from Em, (a great girl and super creative mum) but fiddled with the recipe a bit.
Here's what I did:

2 cups Corn starch
1 cup of water
+ a few drops of food colouring.

You can add more water or cornstarch as you go to play with texture and consistency. Little Clam even wanted to do a "taste test" on it. Ew!

Most of all, have fun - and create some memories with your little ones! :)

Till next time...

Jar String-Vase & Signs of Spring

There are signs here that spring is on it's way. Yippee!

With temperatures as low as 14 degrees (that's 57.2 F for all my US friends) here in Sydney over the weekend, that is a welcome thing. Last week we were having lovely sunny days where I finally got to dig out some T-shirts that had been banished while I was pregnant (they are just starting to fit again), so to have a sudden drop in temp over the weekend was a bit of a shock. All I can say is I am glad for the brave plants in the garden that already started flowering - they are a real promise of what is to come.

With that said, I just HAD to bring some inside to make the place just a little more cheery. I wanted a vase with straight sides, and since I don't have any, I grabbed another jar that we had just emptied, removed the label, washed it, and went to work.

I grabbed some string and lampshade glue and set about transforming an otherwise plain jar into something that I really like (too bad I didn't make the string more permanent! I think if I were to do this again, I would slather the jar with glue where I want the string to go).

Spring is my favourite season (with summer and Autumn being close runner-ups). I don't bring flowers indoors half enough - mostly because they don't last as long as they do outside, and I feel bad about spoiling them, but the flowering peach is smothered in sumptuous blossoms, so I thought it could spare a few.

Hope your week is off to a great start... I'm off to the dentist. (Boo!)

Easy Vegatable & Pasta Fritata

When the weekend hits here, my cooking tends to go in one of two ways - gourmet/complex, or easy. This weekend tended towards easy, so when Friday night rolled around, I decided to whip up a fritata.

Ingredients:

1 Cup pasta (cooked)
1 cup frozen peas
1 cup tinned corn kernels
1 small Kumera (aka sweet potato) or carrot - grated
1 onion finely chopped
7 - 8 eggs beaten

The kids loved it, and hubby said to add it to the list of "Please Repeat" recipes. I think I might like to try a Mediterranean twist to it at some point too. I'd love to hear if you make it or try a version of it yourself.

Enjoy!

A Little Baby Sweetness... {in the creativity department}

This week is the first time I've had the hook out after a 7 week Baby Starfish shaped pause. Not that spending time with him isn't worth it - oh no sirree! I'm all swept up in this Scrumptious little button of ours. He has grown so quickly, and already knows what I mean when I say "Legs down" (when he's being changed) and "Say Ahhhh".

Friends of ours had a baby girl (Mackenzie) just over a week ago, so Thursday afternoon this week I actually found some time to make another one of these.  (That you may have seen here, here and here).

Did I mention that I heart naptime??? This one is made from cotton (part of what I was given last weekend), and whipped up with an I hook.

Enjoy each moment!
